The Robert Schoch foundation (RSF)- is a private initiative by a group of individuals highly conscious of the advances made in the field of medicine and biology and which give society unprecedented control over human life. Mindful of the hopes and promises, but also of the inherent risks to which current biomedical discoveries and practices give rise, they came together to set up an organization designed to provide reliable information and to encourage the widest possible discussion on both the scope and stakes involved.

RSF’s stated objective is to contribute to the development of bioethics based on the respect and the promotion of the individual, from conception to natural death.

RSF is in favour of progress but not of a certain “ideology of progress” which satisfies itself with faits accomplis or enticing prospects. RSF intends, therefore, to exercise critical vigilance with regard to scientific and technological advances – more especially in the field of biomedicine.

RSF is independent of any political or religious parties or groups. It is non-confessional and adheres to the principle of State secularism, based on the respect of and openness to religious traditions.

RSF wishes to develop and express its thoughts, in line with the notion of common reasoning, by cultivating the art of presenting its position in order to encourage rational public debate.

RSF aims to inform, make aware and enlighten the general public and political decision-makers as to the stakes involved in bioethics and other related questions of society, achieving these aims thanks to the regular organisation of study sessions (symposia, seminars, conferences, discussions and continuous training programmes), publications (books, brochures, dossiers, newsletters) or events (press conferences, petitions, …).

RSF also wishes to encourage exchanges and synergy between institutions, centres and private individuals who share the same approach to bioethical questions. The institute offers to act as a relay for scientists from European countries who are looking for information on possible funding or student grants.

In view of the growing importance of both European and international institutions in these discussions, RSF has chosen to locate its head offices in Geneva. Its presence in the capital of Switzerland is a major asset for RSF in the creation of contacts and networks.

RSF has also established a scientific committee made up of graduates from foreign institutions.

OBJECTIVES OF THE FOUNDATION
Robert Schoch Foundation wants to also support the exchanges and synergies between institutions, centers and individuals who share his approach of the bioethics questions.
Robert Schoch Foundation proposes to be used as relay for researchers working primarily in the field of the somatic cells, with for finality in the long term the administration of cures of in-depth rejuvenation. We exclude any activity on the embryos, human or animal.
